Androscoggin Historical Society Facts

Founded:
The Androscoggin Historical Society was founded in 1923.

Mission:
The purposes of the Society shall be: the discovery, preservation, and dissemination of knowledge about the history of Androscoggin County and the State of Maine. More particularly, they shall be:

1. To discover and collect any material which may help to establish or illustrate the history of the county or state, their exploration, settlement, development, and activities in peace and war, their progress in population, wealth, education, arts, science, agriculture, manufactures, trade, transportation;

2. To provide for the preservation of such material and for its availability as far as may be feasible, to all who wish to examine or study;

3. To disseminate historical information and arouse interest in the past by publishing historical material in the newspapers or otherwise; and by marking historic buildings, sites and trails.

Collections:
The Androscoggin Historical Society is home to family Bibles, cemetery records, family histories and genealogy, diaries, letters, maps and more.
